The Westmoreland Lady Eagles used a mid-game 18-0 run to seize control in route to a 59-29 win over the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots on Friday, January 17, at Westmoreland.

With the score tied at four, a 7-0 surge by Westmoreland lifted the Lady Eagles to an early 11-4 lead. A basket from Taylor Carter cut the lead to five before Westmoreland closed the first frame with a 8-1 run to take a 19-7 lead.

Down 23-7 at the 6:27 mark of the second, AC-S battled back into the game. A Carter jumper, a 3-pointer from Chloe Cook, free throws from Grace Tuttle and Jayleigh Steenbergen and a Steenbergen jumper were part of an 11-2 charge by AC-S---an effort that brought the Lady Patriots to within seven, 25-18, with 2:19 remaining in the first half. However, Westmoreland’s third run of the game---an 8-0 outburst---gave the Lady Eagles a 33-18 lead at the break.

Westmoreland continued their run, scoring the first 10 points of the third frame. A Kaylee Bullington free throw at the 5:06 mark of the third broke the Lady Patriot’s five minute scoring drought. A basket from Tuttle and a 3-pinter from Steenbergen were the only Lady Patriot points the rest of the third.

Westmoreland’s 53-24 lead to start the fourth grew to as much as 35 points at the 5:17. A late jumper by seventh-grader Aubrey Naiser and a 3-pointer by varsity newcomer Sarah Beth Wright accoutered for the Lady Patriot’s final points of the night.

Steenbergen---an eighth grader---led the Lady Patriots with seven points, matching her career high. Bullington added six points. Steenbergen and Cook led the team in rebounds with five.

The Lady Patriots were nine of 30 from the floor (30.0%) and eight of 13 at the foul line for a 61.5% mark. Westmoreland (18-3) made 22 of 57 shots (38.6%) and went seven of eight at the line. The Lady Eagles out rebounded the Lady Patriots 34-26.

AC-S (4-12, 1-2) will travel to Butler County (6-12) Monday night. The junior varsity game tips at 5:30 with the varsity to follow.
