Latest Student-Athletes of Month Named

The Allen County-Scottsville athletics department has announced the student-athletes of the month. Cheerleader Sydney Ausbrooks, boys basketball’s Sam Clarke, swimmer Tad Koltin Taylor, and girls basketball player Mason Towery were recently chosen for the honor.

Ausbrooks is a junior cheerleader that has been a part of the high school squad since her eighth-grade year. This year, Ausbrooks has helped the cheer squad to a second-place finish in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Region 4 small division cheer competition and a sixth-place finish at the Universal Cheer Association Nationals in Florida.

Away from cheering, Ausbrooks is active in DECA, Beta, Pep Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and watching NetFlix. Ausbrooks’ future plans are to attend Western Kentucky University and pursue a career in the dental field. Ausbrooks is the daughter of Eddie and Susan Ausbrooks.

Clarke is a four-year member of the Patriot basketball team. As a senior, Clarke averaged 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. In January, Clarke scored 17 points against Edmonson County. Earlier this month, Clarke sank six three-pointers and finished with a career-high 20-points against Metcalfe County. The senior also grabbed a career-best eight rebounds against Caverna. Clarke recently completed his basketball career having scored 337 points, started 23 times, and appeared in 61 games.

At AC-SH, Clarke participates in DECA, Pep Club, and FCA. Following graduation in May, Clarke plans to attend the University of Kentucky and work toward a business degree. He is the son of Jordan and Michele Clarke.

Taylor is a freshman member of the swim team. The three-year swimmer anchored the boys squad this year posting several personal best times. Taylor capped the season with a sixth place in the 200y freestyle at the KHSAA Region 2 meet with a time of 2:02.50. Taylor also placed 14th in the 100y backstroke with a time of 1:13.44. The freshman also helped the Patriot 200y freestyle relay team qualify for second day action at the region swim meet. Previous honors have included the 2017 Most Dedicated Swimmer and MVP of the CORE’s Sea Dragons swim team.

When not swimming, Taylor enjoys running and spending time with family. Taylor is also a member of the cross country squad---a state meet qualifier last fall---and track teams. He is active in Beta and DECA. His future plans are to attend Vanderbilt University and major in engineering. Taylor is the son of Tad Taylor.

Towery has just completed her third year as a member of the Lady Patriot basketball team. In January, Towery scored 67 points in a three-game stretch against Glasgow, Greenwood, and Caverna---including a career-high 29 points against Caverna on January 27. Recently, Towery became the 14th player in the 44-year history of the girls program to reach 1,000 points in a career. Towery finished her junior season averaging 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She has started 63 times in her high school career. Previous honors include selection to the 2016 District Tournament Team, the 2016 All-Region Tournament Team, the 2017 All-District Seasonal Team, and the 2017 All-Region Third Team. Most recently, Towery was selected to the 2018 All-Region Second Team.

Away from the court, Towery is a stellar student-athlete. She is currently a District Governor Scholar Program candidate for this summer’s prestigious program. Towery is active in DECA, Beta, Pep Club, and FCA. She enjoys hanging out with friends, shopping, watching movies, and going to the gym. Towery’s future plans are either to play college ball or attend the University of Kentucky and major in elementary education or biology. Towery is also considering a career as a pediatrician. She is the daughter of Clark and Melissa Towery.
