Class Night 2017 Held

Class Night 2017 Held

The Class of 2017 at Allen County-Scottsville High School was introduced to the community Saturday night at Patriot Gym during the annual Class Night activities. Parents, family members, and friends filled the bleachers as seniors walked out in formal wear in the annual event which precedes the junior-senior prom.

“It excited me to see such a great turnout in support of this class at this closing of a chapter in our lives,” noted Class of 2017 vice-president Ada Bailey Stamps. “Many years of knowledge, wisdom, and dedication has been poured into us by our teachers, mentors, and parents. Class of 2017, we have been prepared by great people. Now this is our time to go out into this world, find our niche, and forge our own path.”

Class president Gabriel McGuffey reminded the audience about the meaning of the moment and encouraged his classmates to face the challenges that wait.

“Class Night is about recognizing and celebrating our achievements, reflecting on our memories, and embracing our friends as we now realize that our journey here is close to the end,” McGuffey said. “Seniors, tonight is about us. In the past 12 years we have constantly been asked what are you going to do with your life. Some of us have already answered that question. Parents, you are looking at future educators, medical professionals, businessmen, and those who have chosen to enter military service, and many other occupations. To those who have not answered that question, I assure you that everyone has a purpose and you will soon find it. Friends, when life’s struggles to knock you down, you must stand back up. Fulfill your purpose.”

The evening included the announcement of the winners of three highly prestigious awards presented each year at Allen County-Scottsville. High school principal Shane Davis presented the Outstanding Senior Award to Jessie Sue Pruitt, the 18-year old daughter of Chuck and Brenda Pruitt. The Citizenship Award was presented to 19-year old Gabriel McGuffey, the son of Danny McGuffey and the late Deborah McGuffey. Receiving the Service to School and Community Award was 18-year old Ada Bailey Stamps, the daughter of Todd and Chelly Stamps. The award winners were selected by high school faculty.

Class Night also included special music by class members. Stamps and class mate Shawna Steele performed solo selections with Ripley Dyer and Nick Reid singing a duet. Senior class officers---McGuffey, Stamps, and class treasurer Derek Taylor---shared memories of their 13-year school journey.

Graduation for the Class of 2017 will be Friday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. at Patriot Gym.
