August Athletes of Month Named

   The athletic department at Allen County-Scottsville High School has selected student-athletes Baylea Cook, Madison England, Owen Stamper, and Steven Whitney as the Student-Athletes of the Month for August. The recognitions---based on nominations from their coaches---highlight the student’s dedication and commitment to their sport and on-field achievements.

  Baylea Cook is a two-sport athlete, participating in the Lady Patriot volleyball and basketball programs. On the volleyball court, Cook has helped her team to a 7-3 start to the 2017 season. The defensive specialist has opened the new year looking to continue to develop her volleyball skills---skills that earned her All-Region tournament selection last year.

   Cook---the daughter of Greg and Melinda Cook---is also active in FFA (Future Farmers of America), FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), and the Beta Club. She enjoys working out in her free time. The senior’s future plans are to attend Western Kentucky University and pursue a degree in agri-business.

   Madison England has been with the AC-S cheer program for three years and involved in competitive chair since the age of six. The daughter of Jarrod and Kathy England has been an All-Star cheerleader and competed in region and state competitions.

  England is involved in Pep Club, DECA, and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America. Academically, England has a 4.0 GPA. Away from cheer, England enjoys reading and art. Her future plans are to attend Western Kentucky University.


   Owen Stamper is a three-sport student athlete at AC-S. On the golf course, the sophomore has excelled in recent months, building upon his skills obtained from seven years competing on the high school golf team. For August, Stamper recorded a 74.2 stroke average to lead the Patriot golfers. Stamper finished in a second-place tie at the South Warren Invitational and fourth at the Warren East Invitational. The sophomore was ranked 74th on the All-State points list.


   Away from the golf course, stamper participates in FCA, FFA, and Pep Club and well as playing basketball and baseball at AC-S. The son of Scott and Tasha Stamper enjoys hunting and fishing. His future plans are to attend college and pursue a degree in turf management.


   Steven Whitney (5’10”, 225, SR) has helped carry the Patriot football team to a 3-0 start. Whitney---a four-year football player---led the team in tackles against Hart County on August 19 and against Barren County on August 25. Whitney was selected as the South Central Bank Player-of-the-Game against Barren County.

   Whitney enjoys playing football with friends and being outside. He is undecided about his plans beyond high school. Whitney is the son of Valarie Sloan and Kenny Whitney.
