FBLA Competes in State

FBLA Competes in State

Five members of the Future Business Leaders (FBLA) of America chapter at the Allen County-Scottsville High School competed in the state FBLA competitions April 17-19 at the Galt House in Louisville. Every member that competed placed in their categories.

Holly Gaines and Shelby Taylor placed fifth in Graphic Design based on a project the pair has worked on for months.

“Holly and Shelby each had to act as graphic designers for a new Family Entertainment Center and provide a branding package,” FBLA advisor and business educator Laura Carter explained. “They had to come up with a name, location, space, and also design a logo, a store front design, creates interior and exterior signage, and menu boards. All of this was done at school beforehand and they prepared a presentation as well. The name for their family entertainment center was ‘Unda the Sea’ with an underwater/beach theme with neon and black light colors. They placed first at the Region 2 FBLA competition where they had to explain their design and sell their presentation in front of judges. At State FBLA, they had to do the same in both preliminaries and then in the finals. They now have the opportunity to compete at FBLA Nationals in Anaheim (CA) this summer if they choose to go.”

Allyson Gobbell, Sarah Gilliam, and Elizabeth Gardner also placed fifth in Local Chapter Name Tags, capping a project that required careful attention to detail.

“Allyson, Sarah, and Elizabeth designed a name tag with the FBLA ‘Linked Together’ theme for this year,” Carter added. “Their design placed second at FBLA Region and was then sent on to State FBLA to be judged. This event was Regional/State only.”

Chance Baldwin---FBLA president at AC-SH---also attended the state competitions as the delegate for our local chapter.
