Volleyball Stretches Win Streak to Six

   The Lady Patriot volleyball team continues to post straight set wins. Last week, ACS improved to 3-0 in District 15 action with a 2-0 (25-8, 25-20) win over Glasgow before downing Red Boiling Springs 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-18) on Thursday in a game played at Westmoreland. 

  AC-S was in control most of the way against Glasgow on August 28. Strong serving to start the match and solid play around the net helped AC-S to cruise to the opening set win. Glasgow rallied in the second set before AC-S pulled away to take the set bu five points and win the match. 

  Thursday, the Lady Patriots faced the task of battling a solid Tennessee team. In the opening set, Olivia Brown’s serves to start the match staked AC-S to an early 3-0 lead. Sets by Meg Foster led to kills by Chloe Cook enabling AC-S to extend their advantage to 7-2.  The Lady Bulldogs closed to with two points before solid returns by Cook and senior striker Macy Ward helped AC-S answer the challenge.   The Lady Patriots took control of the opening set with a series of strong serves by junior Avery Pitchford. Her ace lifted AC-S to a 13-9 lead and signaled the start of a 6-0 Lady Patriot run---a run that ended following Pitchford’s second ace. Red Boiling would never pull closer than six points the rest of the way in the first set. 

  The second set was more of the same. Brown’s service winners enabled AC-S to open the next set on a 6-0 run. A side out gave Red Boiling Springs a point only to see the Lady Patriots continue to dominate. An ace by Ward and a pair of kills from Cook lifted the Lady Patriots to a 14-3 lead. Service winners by Abigail Cooper, solid shots from Kaylee Baldwin, and continued strong serving from Pitchford carried AC-S to the commanding 25-8 set win. 

  The Lady Bulldogs managed to grab their first lead in the match early in the third set. However, after ties at one, two, three, and five, the Lady Patriots score three unanswered points to open an 8-5 lead. Red Boiling rallied and was able to pull even at 12. 

  Later, with the score knotted at 15, Brown drilled a service winner. Moments later, a Foster set led to a Baldwin kill as AC-S stretched their lead to 17-15. Later in the set, Ward drilled an ace and nailed a second serve to enable the Lady Patriots to open a 22-17 lead. AC-S soon closed out the set and match to record a sixth consecutive win. 

  AC-S (10-5) will host Edmonson County on Thursday and Westmoreland next Monday.
