Allen County-Scottsville senior basketball player Sarah Sutton signed her National Letter of Intent with Murray State University Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the high school library.

“This is a decision I didn’t take lightly,” Sutton said. “Coach Turner told me about the school, the academics, and what they expect in the basketball program. Everything she said was check, check, and check. It was everything I could have dreamed of a college offering. The little things were what set me on wanting to go there. It is an atmosphere that I want to be a part of.”

Sutton started playing basketball in her younger days in eastern Kentucky. As a fourth grader, Sutton moved to Scottsville where her skills were soon discovered by the Lady Patriot coaching staff. Sutton’s potential and commitment enabled her to make the AC-S varsity roster as a seventh grader. A year later, Sutton was in the starting line-up as the Lady Patriots marched to a 30-5 record in a season that concluded with AC-S reaching the finals of the 2015 Houchens Industries/KHSAA state tournament.

As a freshman, Sutton averaged 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds to help AC-S post a 25-5 record. She was selected to the District 15 All-Season and All-Tournament teams. In her sophomore year, Sutton increased her scoring average to 17.9 points while grabbing 7.8 points a game. She was named to the 2017 District 15 All-Season Team and Region 4 All-Region, Second Team.

Last year, Sutton averaged 18.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She led the team in scoring in 20 of AC-S’s 30 games and in rebounding 19 times. Sutton recorded a career-high 30 points in games against Glasgow and Warren Central. In addition to her 53% shooting percentage from the floor, Sutton shot 83.1% from free throw stripe---finishing the season 10th in the state in FT%. Sutton was named District 15 All-Season MVP and was selected by Region 4 coaches to All-Region First Team.

Sutton starts her senior year among the AC-S leaders in all-time scoring and rebounding. Sutton is sixth on the overall scoring list with 1,617 points. She has grabbed 855 rebounds; 147 rebounds shy of the school record. In her six-year Lady Patriot career, Sutton has appeared in 152 games and made 119 starts. Sutton has a career scoring average of 10.6 points per game and a career 5.6 rebounds per game average. She has been selected as the 2018-19 Region 4 Pre-Season Player of Year in The Cats’ Pause magazine

Her accomplishments in high school ball coupled with her achievements with her Kentucky Premiere EYBL 15u team caught the attention of second-year Murray State coach Rechelle Turner. Sutton’s signing with the Racer program enables her to fulfill a dream of playing college basketball at a high level.

“Playing D-1 basketball it something I have always dreamed of.” Sutton noted. “I watched Morgan Rich sign with Kentucky and go to Oklahoma. I watched Shelby Harper play at Louisville. It is something that I have dreamed of and to have met that dream is incredible. It’s something that I have always wanted.”

Sutton---the 18-year old daughter of Kim and Rickie Huntsman---is undecided about a college major but is considering a career in accounting or marketing. Sutton is the sixth Lady Patriot to sign with a D-1 program (Laura Ogles, Susie Starks, Cammie Campbell, Shelby Harper, Morgan Rich).
