Volleyball Defeats Franklin-Simpson

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot volleyball team used a 17-7 first set run to recover from an 18-10 deficit, win the first set, and go on to capture a 2-0 (27-25, 25-18) win over Franklin-Simpson Monday evening at Patriot Gym.

Franklin-Simpson broke a 3-3 tie in the first set with a 10-4 run to build a 13-7 lead. An ace by Adrianna Webb and a kill by Kalee Baldwin enabled the Lady Patriots to battle back to within four points. However, Franklin-Simpson bounced back to grab an 18-10 lead before the Lady Patriots began their rally.

A series of strong serves by Meg Foster and an ace by Baylea Cook enabled the Lady Patriots to cut the eight point deficit to five. A pair of kills from Baldwin off sets by Cook and Foster trimmed the Franklin-Simpson lead to three, 21-18. A service winner by Abigail Cooper, an unforced Lady Cat error, and a strong winner by Webb pulled AC-S even at 22. Webb would record an ace and Baldwin a kill to put AC-S up 24-22. Franklin-Simpson stayed alive knotting the match at 24 and 25 before a soft kill by Chloe Cook and a long return by Franklin-Simpson gave AC-S the first set win, 27-25.

The Lady Patriots used a 10-0 run in the second set to take control. Knotted 8-8, serving by Webb and solid play by the Lady Patriots propelled AC-S to a 19-10 lead. Strong defense and hustle by Foster lifted AC-S to a 24-11 lead. The Lady Cats survived seven match points before a Macy Ward kill ended the set and gave AC-S the match win.

Monday’s win over Franklin-Simpson (9-9) comes on the heels of last Thursday’s 2-0 win over Westmoreland. The Lady Patriots took the first set 25-21 and captured the second 25-23 to down the Lady Eagles.

AC-S (10-4) looks to improve to 5-0 in District 15 play Thursday afternoon against Glasgow (8-6, 2-2). Next Monday, AC-S welcomes Butler County (1-11) to Patriot gym.
