ACS Hosts KMEA Regional Quarterfinals

   The Allen County-Scottsville Patriot Band placed fifth overall in a field of 20 bands last Saturday at the Simon Kenton Marching Band Classic in Independence Kentucky.


  AC-S scored a 74.40 following the days’ finals competition. Bourbon County, a class 4A band, took top honors with a score of 81.40. Class 3A John Hardin finished second (79.20) followed by Class 3A Bullitt East (78.70) and 4A George Rogers Clark (75.80).


  This Saturday, AC-S will be among 12 bands from west and west central Kentucky competing in the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Class 3A regional quarterfinals at Patriot Field. The top eight bands in the field advance to the KMEA Class 3A semifinals next Saturday at Nelson County High School. AC-S is seeking a 21st consecutive appearance in the semifinal round.


  The competition this week begins at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon as Franklin-Simpson takes the field. Wayne County follows at 2:15 with Paducah Tilghman performing at 2:30. Taylor County follows at 2:45. After AC-S performs at 3, Russell County concludes the first group at 3:15.


  The remaining six bands start their performances at 3:45 with Calloway County. Hopkins County Central goes at 4, Breckinridge County at 4:15, John Hardin at 4:30, Warren Central at 4:45 with Warren East concluding the day at 5 Saturday afternoon. Results and semifinal qualifiers will be announced shortly thereafter.


  Admission for Saturday will be $12. Parking on the grounds at AC-SH will be mainly limited to the school’s buses and equipment trailers with the public directed to parking locations near the Bazzell Middle School and other locations on the District campus. Motorists should also expect heavy congestion near the high school during the afternoon and early evening.
