ACS Basketball Schedule Released

   The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriot and Patriot basketball teams will play 16 girl-boy double-headers during the 2016-17 basketball season. The girls-boys schedule also includes 14 home games for the Lady Patriots and 18 home contests for the Patriots.

   The varsity basketball season begins on Tuesday, November 29 with a girl-boy home double header against South Warren. Pre-Christmas girl-boy doubleheader action include road games at Barren County and Cumberland County and a home doubleheader against Warren East.
  
   December will see the Lady Patriots on the road to Corbin, pitted against Muhlenberg County as part of a showcase event in Owensboro and on the road to Franklin-Simpson in junior varsity-varsity action. AC-S returns to Owensboro on December 21 to participate in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament.
  
  The Patriots entertain Bowling Green and travel to Edmonson County to complete a busy first week of action. AC-S will be in junior varsity-varsity games at Franklin-Simpson on December 15 before hosting Metcalfe County and Louisville Colligate the week prior to Christmas.
  
  The Lady Patriots and Patriots will host the South Central Bank/Halton Classic in late December. The girls will play a traditional eight-team bracket tournament starting on December 28. Six boys’ teams will begin pool play on December 28 by playing twice on the day. The boys will conclude their event on December 29 with pool place games. The girls’ semifinals and consolation bracket games will be played December 29 with the girls’ tournament concluding on December 30. The Lady Patriots are the tournament’s defending champion.

   The remainder of the schedule includes girl-boy doubleheaders against Glasgow, Monroe County, Barren County, Logan County, Greenwood, Clinton County, Caverna, Metcalfe County, Warren Central, and Russell County. The Lady Patriots will also face Bowling Green and Owensboro Catholic in junior varsity-varsity home contests. The Patriots have junior varsity-varsity matchups with Adair County, Edmonson County, and Hart County.

   The District 15 girl and boy basketball tournaments will be the week of February 20 at Barren County High School. Glasgow (girls) and Barren County (boys) are the defending District 15 champions. The Region 4 tournament will follow the next week at Western Kentucky University. Bowling Green (girls and boys) are defending regional champions.

   The St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Girls’ Basketball State Tournament is scheduled for March 8-12 at BB&T Arena on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. The Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Basketball State Tournament will be March 15-19 at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Louisville Butler (girls) and Paul Laurence Dunbar (boys) are the defending state basketball champions.

The Lady Patriots---under 10th year coach Brad Bonds----were 25-5 last year but lost four seniors to graduation. Key returning players will be starters RaeAnn Stafford and Sarah Sutton as well as post-season starter Mason Towery. The Patriots---guided by first-year-at-ACS coach Lex Lindsey---lost seven seniors to graduation and will look to improve upon last year’s 6-23 campaign.
