ac-sh students at wku math competition

Allen County-Scottsville High School placed 18 students in the top 5 of their individual events at the Western Kentucky University Math Contest on Friday, March 7 at Grise Hall on the WKU campus. In addition, five AC-SH teams competed in grade level events and placed among the top three.

   The AC-S math department was invited to select students to take part in the contest. Teams could enter four non-Gatton Academy students in each individual test category and one team consisting of two, three, or four members in each grade level team category. The mixed team comprised four members, one student from each grade level. The competition involved students taking math tests across multiple categories at or above their grade levels. Overall, 29 students represented AC-SH.

   Among the top five placements were Olivia Baird, fourth in Functions (12th grade), fourth in Trigonometry (12th), and fourth in Advanced Topics. Aiden Blankenship placed fourth in Graphing (11th), third in Geometry (11th), first in Physical Science (9th-10th), fifth in Probability (12th), and fourth in Word Problems (11th). Emma Brown placed fifth in Functions (12th) and fifth in Algebra (12th).

   Additional high placements were Nathan Carmack who was third in Graphing (11th), fifth in Geometry (12th), third in Physics (11th-12th), and third in Word Problems (12th). Lily Cook placed third in Complex Numbers (12th), third in Trigonometry (12th), fourth in Physical Science (9th-10th), third in Algebra (11th), and third in Word Problems (11th). Logan Daniels placed fourth in Biology (9th-10th) and third in Probability (12th). Raelynn Donovan was fifth in Graphing (11th) and fourth in Geometry (11th).

   More top five results were James Fisher fourth in Geometry (12th) and fourth in Word Problems (12th). Ryan Grow placed fifth in Graphing (10th), first in Geometry (10th), and fifth in Word Problems (9th). Mackynzie Hunt placed second in Probability (12th). Izaiah Johns placed fourth in Word Problems (9th). Dane Jones placed third in Number & Set Theory.

   Top five placements also included Tyler Marsh, fourth in Complex Numbers (12th), third in Geometry (12th), fourth in Physics (11th-12th), and fourth in Algebra (11th). Victor Palacios placed fifth in Complex Numbers (12th), fourth in Algebra (12th), and fifth in Word Problems (12th). Adalyn Skipworth placed third in Functions (12th), first in Trigonometry (12th), third in Chemistry (10th-12th), third in Algebra (12th) and fifth in Advanced Topics (12th). Jack Smith placed fifth in Word Problems (11th). Logan Tabbert placed third in Algebra Equations (9th). Autumn Turner placed fifth in Geometry (11th) and fourth in Chemistry (10th-12th)

    In the team division, members could work together to arrive at answers. Team placements included second place for the the freshmen team (Bryce Fields, Ryan Grow, Logan Tabbert, and Izaiah Johns), the sophomore team (Aiden Blankenship, Lily Cook, Jack Smith, and Autumn Turner), the junior team (Raelynn Donovan, James Fisher, Dane Jones, and Nathan Carmack), and senior team (Emma Brown, Adalyn Skipworth, Olivia Baird, and Victor Palacios). The mixed grade level team (Mackynzie Hunt, Sarah Shain, Dardah Adnan, and Tyler Marsh) placed third.

  Additional students who participated in the daylong event were Sydney Barnwell, Lauren Buress, Scarlet Gilliam, Jonathan Gregory, Erica Tenorio Lopez, Amelia Holzman, Kacey Killen, and Hailey Pigue.
