Preschoolers at the Allen County Primary Center (ACPC) will soon be able to enjoy additional outside playground equipment and activities in the play area a little more comfortably as a result of a major donation. On Friday, November 7, the Elizabeth Turner Campbell Foundation (ETCF) presented the ACPC preschool program with a check in the amount of $16,315 to help upgrade the existing preschool playground.
“This is to fund a shade structure and some new playground equipment,” explained ETCF Board member Dana Spencer. “The foundation is excited to be able to help.”
The foundation received a request to help cover the cost of the upgrades---improvements that will benefit all preschoolers.
“The shade structure will help the kids stay directly out of the sun on hot days,” added preschool teacher Krista Gray. “We will also be getting a piece of equipment that will meet all the children’s needs whether they are autistic or have disabilities. We are going to be able to incorporate all kids in this.”
The grant request was penned by preschool teacher Amanda Spears.
“We had an expansion of the playground about four or five years ago to meet the needs of the growing preschool program,” Spears explained. “We got a couple of pieces of new equipment at that time but we still have open space. We saw a need and started reaching out. We are getting a bolder climber and the shade structure. I think the kids are going to be really excited.”
The new equipment is expected to be ordered and installed in the coming weeks.
