Heather Fowler---a smiling face familiar to students at the Allen County Primary Center---will move into a new role at the school when classes start on Thursday, August 13.
“I have been working in the education field for six years as an ECE Instructional Assistant at Allen County Primary Center,” Fowler explained. “During this time, I have supported classroom instruction, worked closely with students with diverse learning needs, and assisted in creating a positive and structured learning environment.”
Fowler is a 2010 graduate of Allen County-Scottsville High School. Her transition to an ECE teacher comes following her graduation from the University of the Cumberlands with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education P-5 with emphasis in Special Education.
“I chose to pursue a career in education because I have always had a passion for helping children learn, grow, and reach their full potential," Fowler noted. “Working as an ECE Instructional Assistant for the past six years has given me the opportunity to support students with diverse learning needs, and those experiences confirmed that teaching is where I am meant to be. Seeing students gain confidence, overcome challenges, and celebrate their successes is incredibly rewarding and motivates me to make a positive difference in their lives every day.”
Fowler adds that her work led her to take the next step.
“My experiences working with children with Autism and other exceptionalities inspired me to earn my degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Special Education,” Fowler pointed out. “Through these experiences, I discovered the importance of building strong relationships, creating inclusive learning environments, and meeting students where they are academically and emotionally. I believe every child is capable of learning when given the right support, encouragement, and opportunities to succeed.”
Along her journey, Fowler credits the support of a colleague in helping her move forward on her educational pathway.
"I have also been fortunate to work alongside a dedicated educator; Lesley Siddens, who has served as role model throughout my career,” Fowler explained. “Her passion, patience, and commitment to her students inspired me to continue my education and pursue my goal of becoming a teacher.”
For parents/guardians and students, Fowler says they can expect a warm welcome into a classroom that will help each child to grow.
“Students and parents can expect a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment where every child is valued and encouraged to succeed,” Fowler stated. “I will build strong relationships with students, maintain high expectations, and provide the support they need to grow academically and socially. “
Her vision is built upon her experiences over the past six years.
“Through my six years as an ECE Instructional Assistant, I have learned that every student learns differently and benefits from individualized support,” Fowler added. “I have also learned the importance of building strong relationships with students and families, being flexible, and creating a positive learning environment. Most importantly, I have learned that students are most successful when they feel supported, encouraged, and valued.”
Fowler and her husband Sam have two children--- 12-year-old Madilyn and six-year-old Jaxon.
“Family is very important to me, and I enjoy spending quality time together, supporting my children in their activities, and making lasting memories with them,” Fowler stressed. “We love being together, making memories, and supporting one another in our daily lives and activities. Outside of that, I also enjoy coaching volleyball, which allows me to stay connected to a sport I love while helping young athletes build skills, confidence, and teamwork. “
Fowler has served as an assistant coach for the Allen County-Scottsville High School Lady Patriots volleyball team for six years.
“This experience has been incredibly meaningful, as it allows me to combine my passion for teaching, leadership, and volleyball while helping student-athletes grow in confidence, teamwork, and skill both on and off the court,” Fowler added.
The new ECE teacher looks forward to meeting her students at the Allen County Primary Center Open House on Tuesday, August 4.
