Connie McNeil believes every child deserves the opportunity to become the best version of themselves. As she begins her new role as an Exceptional Child Education teacher at the Allen County Primary Center in Scottsville, McNeil plans to provide the positive, loving environment students need to learn and grow.
A native of Greensburg, Indiana, McNeil graduated from Greensburg Community High School in 1988. She continued her education at Western Kentucky University, completing her undergraduate studies in 2020 and earning her master’s degree from WKU in 2023. Her professional training also includes Rank I work and LETRS for Early Learners.
McNeil brings five years of preschool teaching experience to her new position. During that time, she learned that young children often demonstrate their greatest potential while learning through play.
“Children show great potential in their natural learning environment of play,” McNeil noted. “I will use manipulatives that pique their curiosity and encourage them to learn.”
Her desire to become an educator is rooted in her belief that learning begins at birth and that a strong educational foundation can help shape a child’s future.
“I feel that children deserve the opportunity to become the best version of themselves, and to do so, they need to have a proficient education,” McNeil explained. “Children learn from the moment they are born, and exposing them to a positive and loving learning environment at an early age is how they will become the version they are meant to be.”
Students and families can expect McNeil’s classroom to be a caring, trusting and nurturing place. She plans to learn about each student’s interests and use those interests to make classroom lessons more meaningful.
“I want to help my students reach their greatest potential by learning what their interests are and using those interests to help them better understand why it is so important to learn math, reading and writing,” she said.
McNeil understands that students learn in different ways. By using hands-on materials, purposeful play and activities that capture students’ attention, she hopes to help each child build confidence while developing important academic and social skills.
Away from school, McNeil enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband have four children and six grandchildren. The family enjoys boating, swimming and vacationing together.
In her free time, McNeil likes to read and sew. She is also an animal lover with three dogs—Ellie, a golden retriever; Gus, a pit bull; and Rocky, a boxer.
“They are fun pets that keep us active,” McNeil said.
As she joins the Allen County Primary Center team, McNeil looks forward to helping students discover their abilities in a classroom where they feel cared for, trusted and encouraged to learn.
