Half of our 1st Grade classes competed in a UFLI Spelling Bee, and it was a BLAST! These kids were so excited about spelling that after Round 1, they were begging to spell more words! Some even asked if they could do it for recess! 😂🐝

The Championship Round took place Thursday, October 1, with students showing off their skills in speed, accuracy, phonics patterns, and letter recognition. They listened carefully, thought through unfamiliar words, and worked hard to spell them correctly.

🏆 Congratulations to Mrs. Grothe’s class for taking the Quarter 1 Championship! 🎉🐝

A huge shoutout to Mrs. Patrick’s First Grade Leadership Team for organizing the event and helping make spelling something our students were genuinely excited about! (Cheering section was on point! IYKYK) 😉📣👏🏼🎉

Families, you can keep the momentum going at home:
📚 Read together every day
🔎 Ask your child to look for familiar spelling patterns in new words
🗣️ Have them explain why they spelled a word a certain way
💪 Celebrate effort, careful listening, and trying (even when a word is tricky)

Because spelling isn’t just about memorizing words. When students recognize patterns, they become stronger spellers AND stronger readers. ❤️📚

Fruit Kebab Math! 😍🍓🍇🍌

First grade students in Mrs. Patrick's class were given the challenge to plan 3 fruit kebabs with 10 pieces of fruit on each skewer, using at least 3 different kinds of fruit. And just like that…

These learners practiced:
🔢 Counting and representing quantities
🧮 Addition & subtraction
🔎 Looking for patterns
🎯 Following a set of mathematical rules
🔟 Understanding base 10 and place value
🧠 Problem-solving and explaining their thinking

This kind of hands-on learning also brought all the senses into the classroom! Students could see the colors and patterns, feel the different textures, smell the fruit, hear the conversations and problem-solving happening around them, and of course, taste the finished product! 😋

Experiences like this give students a chance to take their skills off the page and use them in a real-world situation. We love seeing the moment kids discover that math isn’t just something we do on paper, it’s all around us! This is math you can SEE, TOUCH, TALK about, and TASTE! 🤓🍊🍍🍎

Happy Fall Break everyone! ❤️ While we’re out, we wanted to share a neat learning experience some of our students had recently at ACPC!

Mr. Blankenship’s second graders had some very special visitors from the high school and together they got to make ice cream in a bag! 🍦

But this wasn’t just a sweet treat! Students were putting math and science into action as they followed a recipe, measured ingredients, and explored what happens when materials are exposed to heating and cooling. They got to observe a change in matter happening right before their eyes… and then enjoy the results! 🔬➡️🍦

Even better? Our second graders got to learn alongside high school students, ask questions, follow directions, work together, and see a real-life connection to agriculture and science.

Science + agriculture + hands-on learning + ice cream = a pretty sweet school day! 🍦❤️

We had such a fun time with our students on Thursday evening working to solve The Case of the Missing Mascot during our Reading & Math Night! ACPC detectives and their families followed clues, completed missions, solved reading and math challenges, and worked together to crack the case. 📚➕🔎

And yes... the mystery has officially been solved! Our students uncovered the culprit at the end of the night and during the Rector Report on Friday morning. It was so much fun to watch their reactions! 🤫

Thank you to our amazing families for spending the evening with us and to our staff who helped make the mystery come to life. We loved seeing our students learn, laugh, and solve the case together! ❤️💙
