Thanks to a grant awarded to the Allen County School District from the Tennessee Valley Authority, Mrs. Davis' 7th grade technology class at JEBMS began their first Robotics unit this week. Students are learning how to build and code by using Lego Spike Prime kits, which were purchased through the grant. Using the Lego Education website, Mrs. Davis has access to units and modules which provide structured, standards-aligned lessons that allow students the freedom to use their creativity, while also providing hands-on STEM learning opportunities. We are so grateful to the Tennessee Valley Authority for making this happen!

Mr. Porter, Mrs. Davis, and Mr. Fowler got an opportunity to represent JEBMS at the annual Access to Algebra Leadership Summit. Proud of the work we are doing to increase access to Algebra content and gain experience with SAT testing. Allen County Schools continues to focus on college and career readiness, and this will allow all students the opportunity to experience this type of testing.

Tomorrow, March 4th, all students at JEBMS will be taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT). This month the state will transtition from the ACT to SAT to measure high school students' college readiness. The PSAT will not only measure the readiness level of reading, writing, and math for our middle school students, but it will also allow students to experience the format, question types, and times of the digital SAT in a lower-stakes environment. We encourage all students to get a good night of rest, eat a good breakfast, and please be on time for school tomorrow. While we understand that doctor's appointments or other previous schedule events may call for the need to pick your child up early from school, we do ask that if at all possible to wait until after 11:00 am to do so.

Hadley Stinson, member of the JEBMS academic team, competed in the KAAC Governor's Cup in the areas of mathematics and composition. At the district competition, which is composed of 4 middle schools from the area, Hadley placed 1st in composition and 3rd in mathematics, which advanced her to regionals in both areas (top 5 advance to the next round). She was the only student to place from JEBMS. After competing against students from 14 other middle schools at the regional competition, Hadley placed 9th overall in composition and 13th in mathematics. While only the top 5 advance to state, we are proud of her accomplishments and the way she represented Allen County.

What's happening in class?
Damon Stone, a 2020 ACSH graduate, and a 2023 graduate of WKU's journalism program, spoke with Mrs. Davis' media technology class. Damon is a journalist with The Citizen-Times, and was able to share with students different topics he covers as a journalist, how he writes his articles for the paper, and what technology he uses when he interviews people. Students were also able to ask Damon questions about his job and what he enjoys about being a journalist. Thank you, Damon, for coming to JEBMS!
