Patriot Golfers Seeing Balanced Scoring

Eli Stamper

(by Don Meador, Sports Information Director, September 15, 2020)

With a week remaining in the regular season, a positive trend is developing for the Allen County-Scottsville Patriot golf team. On any given day and in any match, coach Scott Stamper has multiple players capable of stepping up and leading the way. The evidence for that can be found in the team’s three head-to-head matches and one tournament in the past week.

Monday afternoon at the Hidden Hills Country Club in Tompkinsville, eighth grader Eli Stamper stroked a round of 41 to lead AC-S. Senior swinger Tyler Ford carded a 430. Senior Peyton Cline and junior J.C. Stamps posted a score of 47. Dillon Ausbrooks fired a 51, Owen Talbott recorded a 56, with Peyton West shooting a 57.

Last Thursday at the Scottsville Country Club, Cline’s round of 38 led AC-S to three stroke win over Greenwood. Ford shot a 39 and Stamper posted a 44, Barton Rutledge carded a 45 and Sikes finished with a 46. Additional scorers included Ausbrooks (52), Talbott (55), and West (59).

Two days prior, AC-S defeated Glasgow 158-167 at Scottsville Country Club. The Patriots were ACS was led Stamper who shot a 37. Cline was a stroke back at 38, Sikes posted a 41, Ford had a 42. Other participants and their scorers were Ausbrooks (48), Rutledge (49), Talbott (55), and West 61.

In tournament action last Saturday at the prestigious Bowling Green Invitational Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club, Cline was +12 (84) and Ford was +14 (86) and in the clubhouse when lightning and rain came. Stamper waited out the delay and finished at +14. Sikes (+13) and Rutledge (+27) could not finish due to continued delays and later darkness.

The Patriots are scheduled for a home match on Thursday before participating in the District Tournament (against Barren County, Glasgow, and Monroe County) Monday afternoon in Tompkinsville.
