FFA Honors Own At Banquet

FFA Honors Its Own at Annual Banquet by Linda Lambert, The Citizen-Times, May 11, 2017

The 76th Annual FFA Banquet was held Monday, May 1, 2017, in the AC-S High cafeteria. The theme for this year was “Transform, Purpose to Action.”

FFA members, parents, honorary members as well as representatives from various businesses who support FFA were on hand to enjoy the meal and watch as honorees received their various trophies, plaques and certificates.

Abby Willgruber, state vice president of the Barren River Regin, brought greetings from the Kentucky FFA Association.

Fourteen honorary members were recognized in those attending. Officers from 1987, 1997 and 2007 were also recognized.

Two items from the shop class were auctioned by David Towe. A sandbox sold for $55 and a picnic table brought $150.

Talent show winner Ada Beth Wolfe sang “Beulah Land” and was accompanied on the guitar by her dad, Brad Wolfe.

Club members were recognized for their hard work during the 2016-2017 school year. Among those honored were:

Teams

Chapter Meeting Team: Logan Haven, Logan Stewart, Alyssa Welch, Stacee Groce, Lauren Keown, Anthony Hardin, Wade Weisbrodt, Dylan Tuck, Ada Beth Wolfe and Tristan Skipworth.

Dairy Judging (placed ninth out of 42 teams in the state, first in the region): Ada Beth Wolfe, Lauren Keown (team high individual, 18th out of 151 in state), Jeremiah Morgan and Anthony Hardin.

Livestock Judging (place 14th out of 40 teams in state, second in region): Mikayla Groce, Stacee Groce, Alyssa Welch and Baylea Cook.

Horse Judging: Kadie Woods, Sierra Hatcher and Sydney Day.

Land and Soil Judging (placed sixth in the region): Stacee Groce, Samantha Stephens, Alyssa Welch and Ashley Yokley.

Trap Shooting: Clay Brown, Wade Weisbrodt, Cooper Campbell, Tristan Skipworth, Jack Vernon and Seth Hardcastle (placed fourth in region with a score of 48 out of 50).

Agriculture Mechanics: Logan Haven, Josh Humphrey, Tyler Skipworth and Bryson Richer.

Floriculture: Mackenzie Groce, Mikayla Groce, Harley Tabor and Lori Pendley.

Meat Evaluation (placed 15th in state, fourth in region): Clay Brown, Logan Haven, Nick Shockley and Joseph Taylor.

Poultry Judging: Ada Beth Wolfe, Bailee Coffey and Jack Vernon.

Small Animal Tech: Julian Gonzalez, Wade Weisbrodt, Cheyenne Campbell, Jeremiah Morgan.

Small Engines (placed third in region): Wade Weisbrodt, David Meador, Anthony Hardin and Keaton Woodmansee.

Welding: Logan Haven, Clay Brown, Logan Stewart and Ethan Givens.

A nominating committee composed of Michael Vick, Julie Shelton and Todd White worked with those running for officers. Todd White, wearing his FFA jacket from 1978-79 at Lyon County High, presented the new officers: Alyssa Welch, president; Lauren Keown, vice-president; Harlee Carter, secretary; Anthony Hardin, treasurer; Stacee Groce, reporter; Lacee Groce, chaplain; Jeremiah Morgan, parliamentarian; and Tristan Skipworth, sentinel.
