Lady Patriot Softball Wins One, Drops Pair.

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots defeated Northwest (TN) 10-2 but dropped games to Warren Township (IL) 9-4 and Lexington (TN) 12-2 in last weekend’s Southern Warrior Classic hosted by Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Patriots out hit Northwest 10-4 in Friday’s win. Leading the offensive attack was Ryley Whitney and Madi Gregory. Whitney went two-for-two at the plate, homered, and finished with three RBI’s in the five inning game. Gregory enjoyed a two-for-three night, homered and also finished with three RBI’s in the win.

The Lady Patriots fell behind 2-0 after the top-half of the first inning before Skaggs scored on a Whitney single in the home portion of the first inning. AC-S took the lead in the third after a single by Skaggs, an error on Northwest, and back-to-back homers from Whitney and Gregory. The Lady Patriots added five runs in the fourth with singles from Anderson, Gregory, Pardue, and Stafford helping AC-S pull away.

Kris-Anne Pardue allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven to record the win. Pardue threw 62 pitches in the five innings of play, opening with a strike to 19 of the 21 batters she faced.

Errors and base-running miscues were the story against Warren Township. AC-S committed seven errors in six innings of play, miscues that led three runs in the contest.

In addition, a pair of early base mistakes proved costly to AC-S. In the top of the first, Skaggs singled to open the game with Taylor Stamps reaching moments later on a dropped third strike. After a walk to Whitney loaded the bases, Skaggs were caught stealing home. After moving to third base on Skaggs’ out, Stamps was picked off third during Gregory’s at bat. The miscue was costly as Gregory followed with her fourth home run in as many games to give AC-S a 2-0 lead.

Warren Township tied the game in the bottom of the first as the result of throwing errors by Whitney and left-fielder Kali Mutter. Three singles in the second inning helped the team from Illinois add a third run. Warren Township would score their fourth run in their next at bat after two singles and two AC-S fielding errors. Warren Township added two runs in the fourth to build a 6-2 lead. After the Lady Patriots added a run in the top of the fifth, Warren Township plated three runs on a double and three singles to grab a 9-3 lead. Macey Pruitt added the final AC-S run in the top of the sixth.

Skaggs, Gregory, and Allie Byrn combined for six of AC-S’s eight hits on the day. Warren Township closed the day with 14 hits off of AC-S starter Allie Byrn---who allowed six earned runs, struck out four and walked three.

Continued fielding miscues and a 12-hit day by Lexington were factors in the third game. Lexington exploded for three runs in both the first and second innings to build a 6-0 lead. The Lady Patriots added a run in the home half of the second. However, a six-run third inning by Lexington all but sealed the win for the Tennessee School.

Sophomore Karley Burchett suffered the lost for AC-S. Burchett surrounded 11 runs and 13 hits in just over two innings of work.

ACS will host Glasgow (4-3) Tuesday.
