Girls Basketball Banquet Held


   The Allen County-Scottsville High School Lady Patriot basketball team capped the 2016-17 season with their annual awards banquet Thursday, April 13, at the Patriot Athletic Complex on the campus of Allen County-Scottsville High School.

  Coach Brad Bonds handed out several awards to his players based on their accomplishments this past year. Academic awards were presented to senior RaeAnn Stafford, juniors Bailee Alderson and KaeLee Stafford, and sophomore Mason Towery. The four currently have 4.0 Grade Point Averages.

  Sophomore Sarah Sutton received statistical awards for points, total rebounds, best two-point field goal percentage, best three-point field goal percentage, and best free throw percentage. Sutton led the team in scoring with 538 points, an average of 17.9 points per game. Sutton went 184-408 from the floor (45.1 %) including 18-47 from beyond the arch (38.3%). Sutton sank 142-182 free throws (83.5%). The sophomore grabbed a total of 235 rebounds, an average of 7.8 rebounds per game.

  During the season, Sutton became the 13th player in program history to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. She will begin her junior season with 1,038 points. Sutton’s 538 season points is the ninth most points scored in a season all-time with her 235 rebound mark ranking sixth most for a season. For her four-year career to date, Sutton has a total of 625 rebounds.

  Sophomore Mason Towery received awards for assists and blocked shots. Towery dished out 82 assists for an average of 2.7 per game. The sophomore also blocked 27 shots.

  Additional awards winners included RaeAnn Stafford (Coaches Award), Baylee Cook (Sixth Man Award), Kali Mutter (Defensive Award and Charges Taken Awards), Sydney Day (Helmet Award), Jaylee Woods (110% Award), and Allison Meador (Rookie of the Year Award).

  RaeAnn Stafford is the only senior on the squad. She will leave the program after making 56 starts and appearing in 114 games during the past four years. Stafford finished with a career total of 380 points.

  AC-S posted a 14-16 record this season. The Lady Patriot program will start the 2017-18 season with an all-time won-loss record of 790-429.
