The Allen
County-Scottsville Lady Patriots posted a 3-0 record in games last week at the
10th annual South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Patriot Gym. AC-S downed
Nelson County (76-59), defeated Logan County (67-58), and got by Covington
Holmes (55-44) to improve to 11-3 on the season. In the
Classic opener, big nights from seniors Sarah Sutton and Mason Towery carried
the Lady Patriots to the win. Sutton matched her career-high, scoring 37 points
and grabbing seven rebounds. The Murray State signee went 13-23 from the floor
and 11-13 at the foul line. Towery added 18 points while leading the team with
eight rebounds. Towery also dished out five assists and blocked three shots.
The duo paved
the way as the Lady Patriots sprinted to a 21-13 lead after the first quarter.
With Sutton dominating inside and Towery connecting on the outside shot, AC-S
opened a 43-28 lead at halftime. The scoring slowed in the third with each team
scoring 13 points. After a 22-point lead at one point, AC-S won the fourth
frame 20-18.
AC-S finished
27-56 from the floor and went 18-26 at the line. Nelson County (1-9) managed to
stay within 20 for most of the night due to offensive rebounds---14 for the
game---which led to the Lady Cardinals outrebounding AC-S 36-35. Nelson County
finished 19-56 from the floor and was 16 of 19 at the free throw stripe.
Six Lady
Patriot players scored in AC-S’s win over Region 4 foe Logan County on December
28. Sutton led the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Towery added 13 points
while dishing out six assists. Taylor Carter added 12 points and recorded six
steals in the win. Chloe Cook contributed nine points, Jae McReynolds added
five, and Kaylee Bullington scored a basket in the win.
Logan County
used a 23-14 second period to open a 38-32 lead at halftime. The hosts responded
with a 19-9 third frame and outscored the Lady Cougars 16-11 in the final eight
minutes to capture the victory.
AC-S finished
the game 22-50 (44.0%) from the field and 20-31 (64.5%) at the foul line. Logan
County was 20-50 from the floor and 15-25 at the free throw stripe. The
20-combined rebounds of Sutton and Cook helped AC-S outrebound Logan County
38-32. The Lady Patriots also outscored the
Lady Cougars 26-18 in the paint, committed 13 turnovers, and dished out 16
assists.
A strong
first half effort from AC-S helped the Lady Patriots build a lead in route to
the win over Holmes on December 29---the Lady Patriots’ seventh consecutive win.
AC-S led 17-8 after the first frame and 28-17 at halftime. The Lady Patriots
and Lady Bulldogs played an even second half.
Sutton
recorded her second consecutive double-double following her 26 points and 15
rebound effort against the Lady Bulldogs. Sutton also passed the 1,000 career
rebound mark and surpassed Savannah Gregory to become the leading rebounder in
program history. Sutton will start 2019 with 1,960 points and 1,007 rebounds.
The future Murray State Racer has played in a record 166 games, started 133
times, and recorded 28 career double-doubles.
The Lady
Patriots went 17-40 from the floor (42.5%) and 19-28 (67.9%) at the foul line.
Holmes was 17-50 (34.0%) shooting the ball from the field and 5-6 (83.3%) at
the foul line. AC-S controlled the glass 37-24.
AC-S (11-3,
0-1) is scheduled to travel to Monroe County (2-8, 0-2) for a District 15 game
Friday night. The Lady Patriots and Lady Falcons will play the second game of
the evening with the tip at approximately 7:30 at Monroe County. Tuesday, AC-S
will play Franklin-Simpson in the quarterfinal round of the Kentucky 2A Section
1 Championships will tip-off slated for 6 p.m. at Patriot Gym.
