Holly DeWitt Named Guidance Counselor

Holly DeWitt

(by Don Meador, June 23, 2021)

Holly DeWitt, a 2007 graduate of Allen County-Scottsville High School, has been named the new guidance counselor at the Allen County Intermediate Center (ACIC).

Following graduation from high school 14 years ago, DeWitt earned her undergraduate degree at Western Kentucky University in 2011. After teaching in Tennessee for a short time, DeWitt returned to Allen County serving as a teacher at ACIC. She earned a Master's Degree from the University of the Cumberlands in 2015 and also received an ED.S from the Cumberlands in 2021.

“I aspired to become an educator because I was fortunate to have many teachers who made a positive impact on my life,” DeWitt said when asked about her decision to enter the educational field. “I want to have that positive impact in the lives of children and play a small role in helping to prepare them for their future.”

As she transitions to the counselor’s office, DeWitt is quick to note that she will be there for the students and parents.

“In my new role as school counselor, parents and students alike can expect an advocate,” DeWitt added. “As a classroom teacher, I was already an advocate.  Now it is on a broader spectrum.  I will be there to support students and their families with academic and social/emotional needs.”

DeWitt and her husband (Brandon) are the parents of a three-year old (Emerson). In her free time, she enjoys time with her family, reading, and shopping.

The new counselor replaces Anne Vinson who recently retired after many years as counselor at ACIC.
