Choir Students Selected for All-State

Choir Students Selected for All-State

   Ten choir students across the Allen County School District were recently selected for Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) All-State choirs.

   Sixth grade student Sarah Hartman was chosen for the KMEA Kentucky Children’s Chorus. The Kentucky Children's Chorus is comprised of fifth and sixth grade students from across the state. The Children’s Choir will perform as part of the KMEA Professional Development Conference in Louisville, February 4-7.

   Eight students from seventh through ninth grade were selected for KMEA junior high all-state choirs. The students include seventh graders Kerah Darley and Ethan Denny, eighth graders Allie Simms and Nathaniel Stinson and ninth graders Bailee Alderson, Chance Baldwin, Abbie Keen, and Rachel Stinson. The Kentucky Junior High Chorus is comprised of the Kentucky Junior High Mixed Chorus and the Kentucky Junior High Treble Chorus. Each chorus has approximately 200 seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students who are selected by audition from the across the state of Kentucky.

   Allen County-Scottsville High School senior Vanessa Durocher was also selected for All-State. Durocher will sing with the KMEA senior high all-state women’s choir.

   The choirs are scheduled to perform in concert as part of the Kentucky Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference, February 5, in Whitney Hall at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville.

Allen County Primary Center music educator Julie Hartman is the Kentucky Children's Chorus Coordinator while John Hall, the recently retired music educator at the Allen County Intermediate Center, serves as the General Music (K-5) chair for the KMEA. Middle school and high school choir instructor Megan Puckett is the KMEA junior high choir chair-elect.
