Summer Food Program Starts in June

Summer Food Program Starts in June

The Allen County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Meals will be provided at six locations, Monday through Friday, from Monday, June 9 until Thursday, July 31. Breakfast meals will be served from 7 until 8 a.m. at the Allen County-Scottsville High School cafeteria and from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. weekdays at the CORE (formally the YMCA, located at 309 West Cherry Street).

Lunch meals will also be served at the high school from 11 until 12:30 daily and the CORE from 11:30 until 12:30 on weekdays. Lunch meals will also be served from 11:00 until 11:30 at the Housing Authority of Scottsville (321 Massey Street) and at Country Place Apartments (51 Hinton Avenue). Lunch meals will be served from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. at Alco Apartments (110 Moncrief Street) and Landmark Apartments (1000 Landmark Drive).

In addition, lunch meals will also be served at the Allen County Public Library from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on July 8, July 10, July 15, July 17, July 22 and July 24.

The Summer Food Service Program will not serve any meals on Friday, July 4 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

The Summer Food Service Program was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. The program provides nutritious meals to all children during vacation periods that are similar to those offered under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs during the school year. Free meals are provided to children 18 years of age or under.
