AXIS Winter Guard Places First

  In their first competition in seven years, the Allen County-Scottsville High School’s AXIS Winter Guard took first place honors Saturday in Tennessee. The AXIS Cadet Guard placed second in their competition on Saturday as well.

  The AXIS Winter Guard scored 65.46 to take the top honor in the competition involving eight winter guards at Independence High School near Thompson Station Tennessee. Daviess County finished second (58.65) in the event which included three Kentucky winter guards and five guards from Tennessee high schools.

      The Cadet Guard earned a score of 50.29 and placed second from among four teams. Hart County won the cadet division with a score of 53.38.    Under the direction of Gina Huff, the AXIS Winter Guard competition program was revived this year. The winter guard is for students in ninth through 12th grade. Their program is entitled “The Wicked Queen” and is based on the Snow White story from the wicked queen’s point-of-view. The guard includes co-captains Skylan Lemert and Kaylynn Lyles as well as members Kayla Franklin, Tayte Hawkins, Cory Hewett, Madison Marsh, Rachel Marsh, Courtney Meadows, Rowan Michaels, Haleigh Shipley, Gabby Veron, Katie Whelchel, and Hannah White.

   The AXIS cadet guard is designed for students in sixth through eighth grades. Their program is entitled “Candy” with the music from the song “I Want Candy.” The cadet’s captain is Alex Ward and the members include Shayla Anderson, Spencer Boatwright, Katie Davis, Robin Gagen, Destiny Haycraft, Taylor Beth Huff, Natalie Meredith, Shelby Pearson, Bailey Perdue, Emma Robison, Heather Sloan, and Abby Stamps.     

   Gina Huff is assisted by Sasha Griffin, Shawn Huff, and Chelly Taylor-Stamps. The AXIS Winter Guard is a member of the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit which includes high schools from Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
