Allen County-Scottsville High School students going through the lines this week at the school cafeteria will notice a special hand-crafted Christmas mural. Three years ago, high school food service worker Sandy Fitzpatrick envisioned brightening the students day at Christmastime by asking seniors at AC-SHS to create a mural to display in the cafeteria.
"I just wanted to start a tradition," Fitzpatrick said. "The kids enjoyed it. Its a good way for the kids to display their talent."
This year, seniors Emma Gammons and Ashtyn Ballinger were asked to work together to create the Christmas artwork.
"I was honored to be asked," Gammons said. "We started last week and finished Wednesday (December 18). We had to manage our schedules."
"It was really fun," Ballinger added. "I like to sketch and she is better at painting. She had to do a lot of it since I was sick last week,"
Fitzpatrick reintegrated her hope that each year, seniors can continue the tradition of sketching and painting the Christmas kitchen artwork.
