The Allen County-Scottsville High School Athletic Hall-of-Fame (HOF) will recognize four outstanding individuals Friday, January 9 between basketball games at Patriot Gym. The Class of 2026 includes runner Marci Logan Garner and golfer Bert Richey as well as the late Cory Cooper and the late Lyle Dunbar.
Marci Logan Garner represented the AC-SH cross country program in the 1990s. Under the leadership of coach Rick Roberts, Garner used her natural abilities to develop into a very talented runner. She would achieve success at both the regional and state level during her time at Allen County-Scottsville.
Bert Richey excelled on the golf course. After learning the sport at a young age, Richey anchored a Patriot golf team that ranked among the best in the history of the AC-SH program. Individually, Richey claimed a regional honor in the early 1990s before taking his talents to college. Later Richey served as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at AC-SH, head coach at Grant County, and is currently an assistant with the Ft. Thomas Highlands Lady Bluebirds.
Cory Cooper was an impact player with the Patriot football team in the late 2000s. His play at the quarterback position helped turn AC-S football around. Cooper’s passing and running abilities were instrumental in guiding the 2009 Patriot football team to an 11-1 record and into the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.
Lyle Dunbar coached the Scottsville Pointers for nine seasons, 1966-1974. While leading the Pointers, Dunbar compiled a 185-75 record. Six of his nine years, Scottsville won 20 or more games. The Pointers won District titles in 1972, 1973, and 1974. Dunbar led the last Scottsville High School team to a sparkling 29-4 record---the most wins in the 50-year history of the program. The Pointers just missed the state tournament, losing in the Region 4 championship game.
After not being retained at AC-SH following the Allen County and Scottsville consolidation, Dunbar found monumental success at Christian County. In 19 years leading the Colonels, his teams won 386 games, 12 district championships, six regional titles, and appeared in the Sweet 16® championship game twice in 1976 and 1979.
Friday night, the inductees, family members, and special guests will enjoy a private dinner reception at the high school before the start of the Lady Patriot game against Warren East. Between the girls game and boys game, an induction ceremony will be held at Patriot Gym.
