Allen County-Scottsville senior Addy Law will continue her softball career at the collegiate level. Law signed with Brescia University on February 11 at the high school library as family, teammates, and friends joined her.
Law---a two sport student-athlete---was impressed by the atmosphere she discovered at Brescia.
“When I went to visit, I liked the coach and the small campus,” Law said. “I just want to be able to play.”
Brescia presented Law with the opportunity to continue to engage in a passion which began at a very young age.
“I started at Fred Hale (Park) when I was five,” Law explained. “I played t-ball and later I played travel ball with a couple of teams, the Bandits and the Outlaws.”
As Law has developed her skills in the sport, she learned to play multiple positions on the field as well as learning the art of hitting. She admits that, defensively, playing shortstop is her favorite spot but is versatile to adjust to whatever position she may find herself in. Her love for the game grew as more and more opportunities opened.
With travel ball dominating the off season, Law also developed her skill-set through the James E. Bazzell Middle School and AC-SH programs. This spring will be Law’s sixth season as a varsity player. According to her high school coach, Law brings an outstanding work ethic to the diamond, on display since her young days.
“I met her when she was nine or 10,” AC-S coach Brad Bonds said. “Addy was already wanting to be a coach. She wanted to show that she was willing to do whatever you asked her to do. As her high school coach, I see her as one of those kids that is willing to do whatever you ask her to do and play wherever you ask her to play. Most importantly, Addy plays at a high level with a tenacity and a hard-working effort that is second to none. She is the example of hard work and effort all the time.”
Over the course of her AC-S career to date, Law has appeared in 149 games and registered 246 at-bats. Last season, she helped the Lady Patriots post a 26-5 record by batting .375. She scored 15 hits and had 21 hits including seven doubles.
Law’s college coach Traci Smith is excited to add Law to her roster at the small NAIA (National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics) in Owensboro. Smith explained that Law is a great fit with the Bearcat program.
“We love players like Addy,” Coach Smith noted. “We try to build our program with players like her. We are tickled to death to have Addy.”
Before trading her red, white, and blue Patriot uniform for the blue and yellow Bearcat jersey, Law will take to the field looking to both help AC-S improve from last year and continue to sharpen her skills in preparation for Brescia.
“I’m looking to have a good season this year to work my way into more time at college,” Law noted.
Law---the daughter of Matt and Tammy Law---is the 35th Lady Patriot softball player to sign to play in college.
