We first created the world and then everyone else joined the one world in Minecraft Edu. With excitement, we started designing and building. However, we didn’t have any direction so we decided to research. We use Nasa’s website to gather most of our information about surviving on Mars and we studied about Mars. We knew we had to have:
Decompression room to decompress and blow off and vacuum the dust.
Living quarters
Storage for food
Storage for equipment
Room for preparing meals
Resources for growing and raising our own food (Farm & Garden)
Restrooms
Ice mine (for water resource)
Electrical Power Room
Mineral mine (building materials)
Energy sources (solar units, heat from volcano for wind power, and nuclear cells for our power room)
Oxygen dome
After we got our information, we each took a different part of the project and started building.
Important parts of our build included:
The Rocket was made mainly out of quartz and the letters on the rocket are made out of red concrete for design. On Mars, we used mainly quartz for the buildings and mainly glass for other parts. The solar panels are made out of iron blocks, black concrete, blue concrete, black glass, and iron bars for support to the legs. The area we used to make mars is the nether which we used a bit of coding know as super dig to clear out an area to make mars. We used red, black, and bits of yellow concrete to make the walls, floor, and ceiling.
We knew we needed a decontamination/decompression area/cleaning area before you enter the civilization area. We put in the ice mine so that we would have a source of water on Mars for civilization and so we would have water to recirculate in our greenhouses. Next we added livestock as our main food source. Then we used the crops from our garden farm for a secondary source of food. The quartz and iron mine was used for the materials to build out and increase the size of our new civilization. We added living quarters and restrooms for the people living there. Also, we added a smeltery so that we would have somewhere to smelt iron and quartz down to use for materials. We added the smokehouse/kitchen so they would have a good place to prepare and store hot meals after a hard day of work. We also knew that we would be able to breathe so we added our oxygen dome where the trees help supply us with oxygen. The solar panels are used as a source of energy along with a volcano and fan. All of these components make up our Mars civilization and help the astronauts survive on this barren planet.
